Christine:

Hello, and welcome to The Mirror Project.

2

:

We are your hosts, Christine.

3

:

Alexandra: And Alexandra.

4

:

Christine: And we are so

glad you're joining us.

5

:

Today we'll be talking about who

we are, why we're here and what

6

:

we hope to do with this podcast.

7

:

Alexandra: So kicking us off, let's talk

about our friendship and how we met.

8

:

We met in 2014, we were both at

university and we decided to join

9

:

the club dance team the same year.

10

:

And why don't we go into

our first impression?

11

:

So Christine, what was your

first impression of me?

12

:

Yeah.

13

:

Christine: So my first

impressions of you definitely

14

:

came later than one might think.

15

:

Even though we were on a team together

for almost a year, We really didn't get to

16

:

know each other until the end of the year,

17

:

and over that summer, you had reached

out to me, you had texted me what

18

:

felt like kind of out of the blue.

19

:

And shared how much you were looking

forward to next year and for us

20

:

to get to know each other better.

21

:

And I just thought, this girl is so cool.

22

:

I hadn't had anybody sort of reach

out to me in that way before.

23

:

And I thought, wow, we're, we're

really going to be good friends

24

:

and, you know, cut to 2024.

25

:

We've been friends for almost 10 years.

26

:

I can't believe it.

27

:

It flew by.

28

:

Alexandra: Wow.

29

:

That, my gosh.

30

:

I remember when you were like 20 and

you'd say, Oh, 10 years is half my life.

31

:

So, my first impression of Christine was

My first day at dance practice because I

32

:

remember I met somebody and the girl who's

gonna join out there for the team And I

33

:

don't think she ended up staying on the

team So I think it was like your second

34

:

or third practice And I remember seeing

Christine and a bunch of the other girls.

35

:

We were all stretching I think we were in

the with the fourth floor atrium of the

36

:

education building on these slick white

floors and All the girls seem to have so

37

:

much more dance experience than I did.

38

:

I was like, oh gosh, they're all

gonna, they're gonna know I'm a fraud.

39

:

Very much up in my head as you

will get to learn and know me.

40

:

I am very much a serious internal thinker.

41

:

So, I think my first impression of

Christine from that day was, okay, wow,

42

:

she's got so many years of experience and

I think you might have fell or slipped

43

:

or tripped or something that day and I

just remember you like bounce back up and

44

:

you're like, I'm good and she laughed it

off and it was like, That's so cool to me

45

:

because if I did something like that, I'd

be like, Oh my gosh, everyone's staring.

46

:

Probably not, but like, what have I done?

47

:

And yeah, so I think we didn't

really know each other well that

48

:

whole year until that summer.

49

:

And I just remember Christine being like,

she's one of the older girls and she was

50

:

very sweet, very kind, very warm, always

there if you needed something, and was

51

:

definitely The one to be careful of.

52

:

Like, she always had her knees or

her ankles wrapped at ice packs.

53

:

She was always, but she

was always good about it.

54

:

She was like, jumped up.

55

:

She's like, no, I'm fine.

56

:

Everyone's like, no, please go sit down.

57

:

Christine: I think people would,

58

:

wrap me in bubble wrap if they could.

59

:

And it's so funny, right?

60

:

Like I said, I had all

these years of experience.

61

:

I hadn't danced since before high school.

62

:

Alexandra: But you had definitely

danced longer, so I was like, okay.

63

:

And to be honest, I really don't remember

reaching out to you, which is great

64

:

because I feel like that's a form of

confidence I was trying to work on,

65

:

like just, Hey, reach out there, put

yourself, but also because I feel like.

66

:

There, to me, it's like there was no

beginning to our friendship, right?

67

:

Because I felt like I've known you

for so long that I was just like,

68

:

no, I've known Christine forever.

69

:

So yeah, that was kind of, I think,

my first impression of you and how

70

:

we met and we did continue to go

on for the rest of the time that

71

:

we were undergraduates on the team.

72

:

Christine actually became

the captain our senior year.

73

:

So that was really cool.

74

:

And yeah, I just I remember always being

friends and that was like the thing that

75

:

really connected us and then it grew out

into Oh wow, we like similar TV shows or

76

:

we like similar books and music and I also

learned so much music wise from Christine.

77

:

Christine: Yes, I would say I could

not imagine what my college experience

78

:

would have been like without you in it.

79

:

You were, especially once you

joined the team and we got to

80

:

know each other a lot better.

81

:

You really became an huge part of

my life and still are to this day.

82

:

Alexandra: Aw, same friend.

83

:

Definitely couldn't imagine my life

without our friendships through the

84

:

high moments and the low moments and the

times where Christine had to definitely

85

:

say, Alexandra, what are you doing?

86

:

You have got to pull yourself together.

87

:

Christine: There were plenty of

88

:

moments where you did the same for

me, so we definitely check each other.

89

:

Alexandra: Yes.

90

:

Yes.

91

:

And I think that's a great segue

into our next topic, right, where

92

:

we want to talk about what is

our why in doing this podcast.

93

:

So Christine, why don't you kick us off?

94

:

So why do the Mirror Project podcast?

95

:

Christine: happy to.

96

:

So I've always known that you would

be a wonderful creative partner,

97

:

and a little over a year ago, I had

reached out and asked if you would be

98

:

willing to start a project with me.

99

:

I didn't know what it would be at that

time, but I knew that You would be a

100

:

great person to build something with.

101

:

And you amazingly said yes, even

though you are, were, and still

102

:

are doing a million things.

103

:

And then shortly after I came to you

with the idea for the, for the podcast.

104

:

And it just, that was the spark that

ignited this whole process up until today.

105

:

Alexandra: I do remember that.

106

:

I think it was what, January

:

107

:

You had brought up something like, hey,

we would do it, and I do remember back

108

:

in college that we had talked about,

like, oh, maybe we would open a book and

109

:

tea shop together, which could still be

in our cards for the future, who knows?

110

:

But I'm really glad we're doing

this project, and as Christine had

111

:

mentioned, I know who I was and still

feel like I'm doing a million things.

112

:

I work full time, and I've decided

what fall:

113

:

school for my second master's.

114

:

And so this time I'm pursuing an MBA.

115

:

So I was doing that.

116

:

And at the same time, I was also

working on a, another podcast with

117

:

a group of thin friends, which.

118

:

I really thought would be a

conversation based, creating

119

:

warm and embracing community.

120

:

And it didn't turn out to be that for me.

121

:

I wasn't all that passionate about it.

122

:

I wasn't excited for it.

123

:

And so I, it was around, I think, February

of last year that Christina came back.

124

:

Oh, I'm thinking a podcast.

125

:

And at first I thought she was like,

Oh, she's just wanted some advice.

126

:

Like what had I learned from.

127

:

My time doing a podcast and

she started talking about it.

128

:

She's like, I think we should do this

together and, and the conversations

129

:

and what it would be about.

130

:

And I got really excited.

131

:

I'm like, this is the joy and passion

I want to feel when doing a project.

132

:

And so I have since left that other

podcast, which was really good for me.

133

:

Also give me a little space to breathe

and all the things that I was doing.

134

:

And cause I'm also, as we've talked

about started my own business, which is.

135

:

Slowly on the back burner.

136

:

It's simmering.

137

:

It's working.

138

:

And then I think it

was we talked about it.

139

:

We're like, okay, we're going to do this.

140

:

We're going to, it's going

to be the mirror project.

141

:

I think we started to kick around

some ideas, throw some things out.

142

:

And I think for a few months,

cause:

143

:

ups and downs for both of us.

144

:

So.

145

:

I think it was about what September

that we really started to get

146

:

into the nitty gritty of planning.

147

:

And I remember, I think we spent

like two hours on the phone one

148

:

night kind of planning out some

topics, what we wanted to do.

149

:

And I just remember feeling so excited.

150

:

I'm like, I cannot believe

that we're doing this.

151

:

Like it's going to be great.

152

:

I'm excited to start

like, let's get going.

153

:

And we, we both have a tendency towards.

154

:

Well, I'd certainly do.

155

:

I won't speak for Christine

towards perfectionism.

156

:

So it's very nice to also have

somebody who also wants to plan ahead

157

:

and think about things, which was

different from my last experience.

158

:

And I loved that.

159

:

So we've really connected

and here we are doing it.

160

:

So yeah, that's, I mean, that's

my why I'm doing this podcast

161

:

with you and I'm so excited to

see where this grows and becomes.

162

:

Christine: Me too.

163

:

I think, you know, at the heart of it,

we, we have interesting conversations.

164

:

At least we think we have

interesting conversations.

165

:

So, we thought that it would

be fun to share them and see

166

:

who else connects with us.

167

:

Alexandra: I think at the end of the

day, we were also looking for an excuse

168

:

to have more conversations together.

169

:

We are best friends and we love to

talk about that and well, talk about

170

:

each other's lives and things we see

anywhere in life on social media.

171

:

And I hope that those listening out

there will also enjoy these chats

172

:

and would like to join us in these

conversations and connect with us.

173

:

.

Christine: And so if you're wondering why we chose the title,

174

:

the mirror project, I'm happy to

give you a little insight into that.

175

:

So when I was sort of thinking about

what I wanted to call this podcast, I

176

:

wanted there to be an element that was

actionable and actionable and actionable.

177

:

You know, encourage us to

continue learning and growing.

178

:

And so I liked the idea of project.

179

:

You'll probably hear us use that

word a lot because we're always in

180

:

progress and we both love projects.

181

:

And then I was thinking about all of the.

182

:

Information I was being inundated with

at the time when I was sort of thinking

183

:

about what I wanted this podcast to be.

184

:

And I just was feeling very overwhelmed

and bogged down with negativity

185

:

that I was seeing on social media,

in the news, in conversations

186

:

that were happening around me.

187

:

And I just wanted to Provide a

little corner of the world for

188

:

people to feel safe and feel as,

like, they could be heard and have

189

:

conversations that were meaningful.

190

:

And so, I started thinking

about this idea of a mirror.

191

:

So I believe that we reflect and are

reflections of the people around us how

192

:

they act and move through the world.

193

:

But I also think that we can slowly change

our, our world around us by reflecting

194

:

what we want to see in our environment.

195

:

So I just really loved bringing

together Mirror and Project , and

196

:

thus the Mirror Project was born.

197

:

Alexandra: Yeah.

198

:

And I, to build off that, I love, I think

that is one of probably our strongest

199

:

points in our friendship is that we

both have that core value of always

200

:

growing and always changing and always

thinking and reflecting and bringing

201

:

moments of levity to that, right?

202

:

Because transformation is.

203

:

Often messy and you know change is messy,

but if we're not changing if we're not

204

:

growing Essentially, we're dead, right?

205

:

Because there's nowhere else to go.

206

:

So I think that is a beautiful

part of the word project.

207

:

And I totally love the mirror, and I

remember when we first started talking

208

:

about this, I was like, Oh my gosh, all

these high flow metaphors about mirrors.

209

:

And I was like, okay, but we're also a

reflection of ourselves and each other.

210

:

So, I hope that our listeners can hold up

the mirror for us, and we can hold up the

211

:

mirror for them to be seen and heard in

this crazy world that we all exist in now.

212

:

It's beautiful, but crazy.

213

:

Christine: yes, yes, indeed.

214

:

Alexandra: Okay, so we've talked about a

friendship, we've talked about the why in

215

:

our podcast, what drove us to start this.

216

:

But why don't we introduce

ourselves to the people listening.

217

:

So, Christine, who are you?

218

:

What is What makes up Christine?

219

:

Christine: Well, okay.

220

:

Where to start?

221

:

So, I have grown up and

currently still live in Jersey.

222

:

That's where we met when

we went to university.

223

:

And I would consider myself an old soul.

224

:

I think you and I both can relate to that.

225

:

And I tend to see the humor in life.

226

:

I don't know if I could move throughout

the world without laughing at myself

227

:

laughing at the world around me.

228

:

Because we need we all need levity

in our life and that definitely

229

:

helps bring balance to me

230

:

Alexandra: And she really

lights up the room.

231

:

I mean, she is the warmest, kindest

person you will probably ever meet.

232

:

So,

233

:

Christine: That's very, thank you.

234

:

And then also I love having

meaningful conversations.

235

:

That's what inspired me to start this.

236

:

project with you and they

are truly my bread and butter

237

:

.

I like to break through to the heart of why people feel the way they

238

:

do and talk about how that impacts

the actions and decisions we make.

239

:

And I'm really looking forward

to exploring that here and then

240

:

a little bit about my family.

241

:

I'm the oldest of three girls.

242

:

And My family is one of the most

important things in my life.

243

:

Probably the most

important thing in my life.

244

:

As well as my friends, which

I consider my found family.

245

:

They help me feel inspired, motivated,

and excited to You know, attack

246

:

every day with, with positivity.

247

:

And I don't know if I would be

who I am today without them.

248

:

And I'm very grateful and

blessed to have them in my life.

249

:

And that includes you, my dear.

250

:

Alexandra: Oh, I love you too.

251

:

And I love your family.

252

:

They're very much like second mom and

dad, and your sisters are so sweet.

253

:

Christine: So why don't

you tell us about you?

254

:

Alexandra: oh gosh.

255

:

Okay.

256

:

I was like, I think we had talked

about this before, but it's

257

:

like, ah, icebreaker moment.

258

:

Who are we?

259

:

So I'm in my late twenties and probably as

you'll discover, we both like witchy, you.

260

:

metaphysical stuff.

261

:

So I will say I am a Pisces sun

and I am learning to jump into

262

:

the unknown because as we have

established, I tend to be very serious.

263

:

And so sometimes, and a bit of a

perfectionist taking leaps, not really

264

:

my forte, but I'm working on it.

265

:

So I grew up in Southern

California and I went to university

266

:

in New Jersey where we met.

267

:

And I have since moved to North Carolina.

268

:

I seem to stick to the coastal states.

269

:

I think being near water is

very important for Penelope.

270

:

I think, I know, I know being near

water is very important to me Um, yes.

271

:

So, also another point of our

friendship that we've connected on.

272

:

And I do remember the time that

we went to the beach and I had

273

:

the most righteous sunburn.

274

:

Oh, it was so bad.

275

:

Anyways, I digress.

276

:

But yes, I would agree

that I'm also an old soul.

277

:

I do have this.

278

:

My mom loves to tell the story of

when I was less than a year old, I was

279

:

standing up at my crib and she walks

in the door and she sees my bright, big

280

:

brown eyes and goes, and she's like,

it's almost like you said to me, what

281

:

are you here to teach me this time?

282

:

And I was like, Oh, okay.

283

:

So I've always been friends with people

who are older than myself and had.

284

:

A bit of difficulty relating and

connecting with people my own age.

285

:

So it was very enjoyable to

meet a friend who was about my

286

:

age, who also had similar views.

287

:

I think sometimes we like to joke

that we're 80 year old women trapped

288

:

in late twenties year old bodies.

289

:

Yeah, so I've really learned

to do that and I'm starting to

290

:

make friends of my own age now.

291

:

And sometimes I

292

:

feel like, Ew.

293

:

You're like, woohoo!

294

:

Way to go Alexandra!

295

:

She is really rocking it.

296

:

Anyways.

297

:

But yes, we also share this love of

deep conversations, and I would say

298

:

that I love the ones that come from

a random thought, where we'll call

299

:

each other up and say, Hey, have,

did you see this video I sent you?

300

:

And what did you think?

301

:

And it'll turn into that

conversation for 30 minutes.

302

:

And then we'll jump to something

else for about an hour.

303

:

And by the end, we've had like

these four hour long conversations

304

:

that have been wonderful,

beautiful, and very, very random.

305

:

But they're amazing.

306

:

And we talk about everything from,

you know, health wellness of the

307

:

planet and sustainability to our

own health and wellness, beauty, and

308

:

of course, metaphysics, which is a

huge part of my life right now and

309

:

hopefully for the rest of my life.

310

:

So, and then most of my life

I've had a large acquaintance,

311

:

a circle of acquaintances, but

a handful of very small friends.

312

:

Not small friends.

313

:

A small handful of very close friends whom

I would almost no longer consider friends.

314

:

They are a family to me.

315

:

Growing up in Southern California, both my

parents families were on the East Coast.

316

:

So I was really taught to make

my family where it went and to

317

:

be honest, those people are the

people I cherish most of all.

318

:

And I would almost say Christine

is less of a best friend, even

319

:

though she is, and more of a sister.

320

:

I will say that I am an only child.

321

:

But probably throughout this podcast,

you'll hear me refer to sisters

322

:

and they are the people who are

just I hold so near and dear in my

323

:

heart and our family at this point.

324

:

So yes, if I confuse people, that is why.

325

:

But yeah, that is that

is a little bit of us.

326

:

And so why don't you tell us,

Christine, what are our shared

327

:

hopes and dreams for this podcast?

328

:

But more importantly, what is your

like, top two hopes and dreams?

329

:

Christine: Okay.

330

:

Wow.

331

:

So I think at the heart of it and

what really inspired the both of us to

332

:

create this is we wanted to create a

safe place for ourselves and for others

333

:

who may want to join in and chat with

us and be a part of this process of

334

:

learning, growing, and spreading light

instead of negative thoughts and ideas.

335

:

Alexandra: that part of what, you

know, going back to what you said

336

:

about why you chose the word project.

337

:

I would definitely say that one

of my biggest hopes for that, this

338

:

joint passion project of ours is

that we see it grow and change and

339

:

evolve from this first recording.

340

:

And I'd really grow with the community

that we're creating because you guys are

341

:

so important who are listening and we

want you to feel like you have a place

342

:

And people who hear and see you, and

so that's really my goal, is to create

343

:

this community of amazing, like minded

people who have the idea that everyone's

344

:

opinions have a right to be heard and

respected, whether or not we agree,

345

:

and we can have honest, kind discourse

about that, and I hope that we touch the

346

:

hearts and minds of many, many people.

347

:

Christine: And while this is a

podcast and we are talking, we

348

:

also understand and want to.

349

:

Allow people to be heard and

know that listening is more

350

:

important than speaking sometimes.

351

:

So that's definitely the idea.

352

:

I I'm embracing with this

and we'll continue to carry

353

:

through as we continue to grow.

354

:

So on that note,

355

:

Please connect with us on our social

media and share with us Your thoughts

356

:

and hopes for the year ahead.

357

:

Thank you all for listening and since this

is launch day, we have dropped a second

358

:

episode diving into our first topic.

359

:

So we hope to see you over there.

360

:

Alexandra: Alright guys, we will

catch you over there and we look

361

:

forward to talking with you soon.
